Last Universal Common Ancestor (LUCA)

The last common ancestor of all organisms living today Protocells are considered to be the first living units. Surrounded by a membrane separating it from its surroundings, the protocell is thought to have produced the Last Universal Common Ancestor (LUCA) to all life forms on Earth. It is the lowest common denominator of eukaryotes, bacteria and archaea.
