A global network of hosts where a vast amount of information resides and commerce takes place. Born as a means of communication between research laboratories in the late sixties, the Internet has gone through several iterations (DARPANET, NSFNET) until arriving at the present form - the World Wide Web. In common parlance, World Wide Web and Internet are used to describe the same thing.
